I designed myself a new business card last night (about time too!) I didn't plan to, I was working on something else, but I went with it and was pleasantly surprised with the result. It's simple and easy to read, which is important in any promotional material. So now you know where to send those financial gifts you were planning for so long!

Got a new set of marker pens recently. Big chunky ones. Started doodling, just keeping the hand moving with no under drawing. Good excercise, because you can't get bogged down with detail, the marker isn't that precise. Liked the result. Rough, but fun, I think.

I'm cleaning out my blog sock drawer as of yesterday by creating a new blog called GONE NATIVE for my sketches related to the (formerly called the UNDERCARD) NATIVE project.

This present blog will feature the stuff that falls out of my head onto the page, thereby living up to to the title. For more professional work, my ever impending website will be the place to go.
In the meantime have these heads. They're freshly chopped.

Character designs for the Undercard. I had some trouble working out the right look for this character and I've realised why that is. I think most comic book caharters are designed with a "costume" even if that costume is normal clothing. To avoid 2 dimensional characterisation at least visually, the right feel is the most important quality. Clothes do say something about a person, but that carries through a whole wardrobe, not just one outfit. Variation makes for a more fun drawing experience!

Here's an old favourite. I worked as a full time concept artist a while back, working on a horror game called CURSE! Although the game was never released, it contained some good ideas and a lot of great work by some very talented people. A shame.

Hello. Welcome to Imaginary Channeling. My name is Paul Peart-Smith (no, I'm not posh.) I live in London with my wife and cat and I've been drawing for 15 years.

I'll be posting a strip on this blog as often as possible. I might also blather on a bit from time to time. Let's see what happens. I've always wanted to do this and I'm having a whale of a time already. I hope it's contagious.
